What is that stuck to the side of my school?
Fairview South School recently applied for and received a grant for $10,000 from The Illinois Solar Schools Program to install a solar panel system. These panels are clever pieces of technology which convert the sun’s energy into electricity. The program, sponsored by the Illinois CleanEnergy Community Foundation, teaches the value of renewable energy and energy efficiency to students by turning our school building into a hands-on science experiment. It makes science fun and teaches students how their everyday actions can positively impact the environment. The electricity generated by the solar panels is pumped directly into our grid and into our classrooms. We would like to thank Abt Electronics who installed the system and provided us with this video of the panels going up. The grant was only enough to buy six solar panels but Abt generously gifted us another two for a total of eight panels. Above you can see real-time data showing how much electricity has been generated in our effort to reduce Fairview’s carbon footprint!
